The Underestimated NODWIN Gaming: Far More Than Just an "Indian Esports Company"
NODWIN Gaming has spent much of the past decade building India’s esports business. On September 15, the company launched NODWIN Sports, a new mainstream sports division led by former Adidas India sports marketing executive Gurbaksh Singh Virdi. The new unit will develop new-age sports and fitness competitions, mass-participation events, commercial partnerships and services for sports federations and rights holders across India and the wider Global South.

However, viewing this solely as an entry into traditional sports overlooks NODWIN’s broader trajectory, which directly challenges two prevailing external misconceptions: that it is merely an "esports company," and that it is strictly an "Indian company."
Esports Was the Starting Point for Nodwin, Not the Whole Business
In 2014, Akshat Rathee and Gautam Virk came together to start NODWIN Gaming. Its early identity was closely tied to competitive gaming, but its portfolio has steadily widened.
Today, the company operates across esports, gaming, pop culture, music, comedy, and live experiences. Its IPs include DreamHack India, ComicCon India, NH7 Weekender, Playground Reality Show, Gaming Matters MENA, and other youth entertainment events. Nazara’s 2024-25 annual report described NODWIN as a business built around “youth passion points” including gaming, pop culture, and esports.

The financial trajectory reflects this structural shift beyond pure competitive gaming. Out of NODWIN's ~$79 million revenue reported in FY26—a 25% organic year-on-year growth—non-esports live entertainment, pop-culture conventions, and media IPs have emerged as decisive revenue and margin drivers. The company posted an EBITDA profit of ~$2.5 million in FY26, reversing an EBITDA loss of ~$1.7 million in FY25.
These numbers have been accelerated by non-esports assets like Comic Con India and mainstream youth IP sponsorships, which operate independently of game publisher marketing budgets and generate diversified, high-margin consumer ticketing, brand activations, and merchandising revenue.
By applying capabilities developed in live gaming production to mass-participation sports and federation advisory, NODWIN Sports simply extends this youth entertainment engine into mainstream athletics.
The Company Has Already Been Expanding Its Audience
NODWIN’s current strategy has been visible through acquisitions as well. In recent years, the company has acquired businesses and IPs across the world. It purchased Comic Con India in 2024, followed by acquisitions of Germany-based Freaks 4U Gaming and StarLadder in 2025, expanding into markets across the Middle East and Europe.
The expansion of Comic Con India from five cities to eight in FY2024-25, with plans for further expansion, shows how NODWIN can use physical events to reach audiences that may have little connection with competitive gaming.
In addition, NODWIN Gaming also hosts events such as NH7 Weekender, SPORTS Matters, All That Matters, Creator Week, BREEZER Vivid Shuffle, and Playground Gaming Reality Show.

NODWIN Gaming International Footprint Is Also Larger Than It Appears
Concrete acquisitions demonstrate this cross-border shift:
Europe: In 2024, NODWIN completed the acquisition of Berlin-based agency Freaks 4U Gaming, followed by the 2025 acquisition of Ukrainian tournament organizer StarLadder, giving the company direct operational control over major European Counter-Strike and Dota 2 broadcast and stadium ecosystems.

Middle East & North Africa: NODWIN established regional headquarters and production infrastructure in Dubai, running localized multi-title competitive circuits and youth festivals across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey.

NODWIN China and NBA Alliance - NODWIN's independent subsidiary NODWIN China secured a landmark sponsorship partnership with the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs. This collaboration bridges North American sports culture with youth entertainment in Asia, setting the stage for high-impact brand integrations and multinational fan engagement.
Central Asia (Uzbekistan) - NODWIN Gaming hit a major milestone in Central Asia on October 20. The company hosted the 2024 PMNC Uzbekistan finals live in Tashkent. The event went beyond standard battle royale by debuting the Metro Royale Clash. Across six intense matches, top Central Asian squads clashed with elite Southeast Asian teams for a $50,000 prize pool. The LAN delivered top-tier production to Tashkent.
Pan-Asia & Emerging Markets: Through properties like Singapore-based Gaming Matters and international editions of DreamHack, NODWIN now executes activations spanning South Asia, Southeast Asia, and parts of Central and East Africa.
Why we should pay attention to this
This matters because many of the markets NODWIN is targeting share a similar challenge: young populations with growing digital consumption but relatively fragmented entertainment ecosystems. The company can take an IP developed in one market and adapt its operating and commercial model elsewhere.
NODWIN Gaming's esports background gave the company experience in building communities around live events. Its acquisitions added music, pop culture, creator marketing and international event capabilities. NODWIN Sports now adds mainstream sports to that mix. The common product is audience attention.
Ultimately, NODWIN Gaming's ongoing reinvention illustrates a broader macro shift: competitive gaming was never the final destination, but the training ground. Rather than staying boxed in as a regional tournament organizer, NODWIN Gaming has quietly built a global entertainment footprint. Whether producing major esports broadcasts in Europe, comic conventions in India, or community-driven sports events in the Global South, the plan is straightforward: capture youth attention wherever it lives, and scale the operational engine behind it.
