In a major strategic push into South Asia’s competitive gaming and digital entertainment market, Google Play has entered into a strategic collaboration with NODWIN Gaming to launch Google Play Arena.

Google Play Arena is a multi-title, grassroots-to-pro championship that introduces a structured competitive pathway across six marquee mobile titles. It also integrates prominent franchised organizations alongside traditional sports star MS Dhoni, who is fielding his own competitive organization, Mahi Clutchers.

Expanding India's Competitive Framework and Publisher Footprint

Google Play Arena represents one of the broadest multi-publisher competitive IP deployments in the region to date. Rather than centering on a single publisher or genre, the championship integrates diverse segments of India's mobile user base, featuring:

  • Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) - Published By KRAFTON India
  • Free Fire MAX - Published By Garena
  • Moba Legends: 5v5! - Published By Vizta Games
  • EA SPORTS FC Mobile - Published By EA Sports
  • Real Cricket - Published By KRAFTON India
  • Chess (Chess.com)

By bringing together competing publishers into an open, merit-led circuit managed through the Google Play ecosystem, the initiative functions as a player acquisition engine and engagement driver. Registrations for the open qualifiers launched today on Google Play Store, setting up an open competitive pipeline before culminating in an offline Grand Finale scheduled for December 19–20, 2026.

Mainstream Crossover: MS Dhoni's Mahi Clutchers Meets Tier-1 Esports Clubs

The commercial architecture of Google Play Arena hinges on bridging mainstream sports celebrity influence with core esports fandom. Cricket icon MS Dhoni will enter the arena with Mahi Clutchers, a newly minted club whose competitive roster will be drafted entirely from the ground up through open qualifiers.

This grassroots format places emerging amateur squads directly into competition with India’s leading established esports organizations, including GodLike Esports, Team S8UL, Revenant XSpark, Orangutan, and Team Apex Gaming. For tier-1 Indian esports organizations, the tournament provides high-visibility club-rivalry narratives, multi-title engagement, and an expanded audience reach bolstered by mainstream sports fandom.

Under the partnership, NODWIN Gaming will handle end-to-end execution, including conceptualization, tournament operations, publisher relations, campaign management, and live event production. Akshat Rathee, Co-founder and Managing Director of NODWIN Gaming, emphasized that the partnership capitalizes on India's rapidly scaling youth demographic by combining top-tier mobile titles, legacy esports clubs, and mainstream icons like MS Dhoni with NODWIN’s tournament infrastructure to drive massive domestic engagement.

In September 2026, Google Play joined BGMI Showdown 2026 as official Gaming Partner. With today's announcement, Google Play Arena anchors user loyalty, platform engagement, and downstream in-app monetization. Focusing on platform strategy, Kanika Kalra, Director of Consumer Apps & Platforms Marketing at Google India, noted that the championship is designed to build a structured, merit-based pipeline connecting grassroots talent to professional recognition, ultimately deepening user loyalty and community engagement across the Google Play ecosystem.

An Evolving Playbook for Digital Storefronts

Google Play’s alliance with NODWIN Gaming signals an evolving playbook for digital storefronts and platform holders in emerging markets. With cross-genre publisher participation, integrated live promotions via Google Play Points, and mainstream sports integration, Google Play Arena aligns with India's digital entertainment economy.
