EWC 2027 Qualifier Program Targets 1.8 Million Players Across 400+ Global Events
The Esports World Cup (EWC) has officially announced the 2027 EWC Qualifier Program, an expansion of the "Road to EWC" that enables tournament organizers and local esports communities worldwide to run official qualifying competitions. The initiative targets 1.8 million players through more than 400 events in 2027, connecting publisher-led leagues, international tournaments, and regional qualifiers into one global championship framework.
The Esports World Cup is a premier annual event featuring a unique cross-game format that pits the world's top esports clubs against one another for the largest prize pool in esports history. The event returns in the summer of 2027 to crown the next Esports World Cup Club Champion. In EWC's multi-title club format, Team Falcons has consistently dominated the ecosystem, securing the ultimate Club Championship title in both August 2024 and August 2025. The 2026 Paris edition of the Esports World Cup: Club Championship Title has been won by AG.AL.

“Road to EWC has shown what is possible when the different pathways across competitive esports connect to one global destination,” said Faisal Bin Homran, Chief Product Officer, Esports Foundation. “There are great tournaments and strong esports communities in every part of the world. By bringing more of them into Road to EWC, we can create more opportunities for players to compete in their own communities and give local esports ecosystems an official role in building the pathway to the Esports World Cup”.
The EWC Qualifier Program introduces two partner-operated pathways to bring established competitions and grassroots tournaments into the ecosystem:
EWC Direct Qualifiers: Organizers of established esports tournaments will continue to operate and fund their competitions under their own identity while retaining local commercial opportunities. Organizers must meet EWC and publisher standards to provide players with an official pathway to the EWC.

EWC Satellite Last Chance Qualifiers (SLCQs): Focused on grassroots participation, this route allows local tournament organizers, federations, associations, cyber cafés, universities, esports venues, and gaming festivals to connect existing competitions or establish new tournaments under their own identity. The Esports Foundation will provide marketing support, as well as accommodation and visa assistance for the winners. Winners earn guaranteed entry into the relevant EWC Last Chance Qualifier tournaments next summer to compete for a place in the EWC Main event.

Initially, SLCQs will feature Chess, Counter-Strike 2, FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves, and Street Fighter 6, with additional titles to be announced.
All EWC Direct Qualifiers and Satellite LCQs will operate strictly in line with publisher requirements and EWC competitive standards, which include standardized rulesets, anti-cheat protocols, certified officiating, and verified results.
The value of these pathways was demonstrated in 2024 when João “jafonsogv” Vasconcelos advanced through the EA SPORTS FC Last Chance Qualifier to become the EWC champion, a success that inspired the creation of the Jafonso Award to recognize similar accomplishments.
Applications for the 2027 EWC Direct Qualifiers and Satellite LCQ program are currently open on esportsworldcup.com and will close on December 20, 2026. Approved events must conclude by June 1, 2027.
